Most of the characters are based on real people of the period, and their actions are based on documentary evidence obtained from various archives. Jerónimo Cardona preached against the Moriscos, and left many writings on the subject. His books contain all the negative archetypes and prejudices about the Morisco community.

The Count of Aranda, Don Pedro de Leiva and Captain Miguel de Larrasoana were also real people, who played a key role in the expulsion of Moriscos from Almonacid. Other characters represent popular figures portrayed in the literature of the time, such as the “picaro” (rascal).

Among the locations chosen for filming are natural landscapes in Almonacid de la Sierra, Calatorao, Épila, Sanctuary of the Virgin of Rodanas, the Ebro delta, Tunisia y Testur.

In Tunisia, real locations were chosen where Moriscos gathered after their expulsion from Spain, especially the arcaded square of the Tertuba Souk, or market, the remains of the Cárdenas palace in Grombalia, and some Morisco houses, such as Dar Balma (home of the Palma family) and Dar Kastalli (home of the Castilla family). Other monuments that were filmed on location include the Dar Haddad palace in Tunis, and the mosque of Testur.

The sequence of the embarkation of the Moriscos at Los Alfaques was filmed in the Ebro delta. The ships were reproduced in 3D and the wide shot was filmed with three cameras. Afterwards, in postproduction, the three images were combined in such a way as to produce a broad panorama, and details in 3D of groups of people, boats and fires were integrated.
